TOP BATHROOM DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2024

Gone are the days where bathrooms serve a purely functional purpose - they’re becoming personalized retreats filled with style and comfort. As the year comes to a close, let’s explore what’s next for bathroom design in 2024.

Here are my top 5 predictions on the trends that will influence the design of bathrooms in 2024:

1.Spa-like vibes

Self-care and wellness have never been more important than it is today. I see more and more luxurious features being introduced into bathrooms - we’re talking fresh eucalyptus over the shower head, placing shower controls near the shower door (thereby avoiding the initial cold water shock), installing heated floors and towel warmers, soaker tubs - the possibilities are endless!

2.Large format tiles

As we shop from one tile supplier to the next, we are continuing to see a growing selection of large format tiles - we’re moving beyond the traditional 24x24 sizes into 24x48 and 48x48 dimensions, even exploring floor-to-ceiling porcelain slabs. Customers are seeking not just aesthetic appeal but also practicality—opting for fewer grout lines for easier maintenance. Also a noticeable shift is the inclination toward tiling all bathroom walls, not just the shower area.

3.Micro-cement applications

The minimalistic appeal of micro-cement on floors and walls of a bathroom is increasing in popularity and I predict that it will continue to be featured in 2024.

Micro-cement is a very fine coating of cement combined with fine aggregates mixed with water based liquid polymers or powdered resin polymers. It is applied in multiple thin coats and a sealer can be applied to waterproof the surface. It can come in multitude of colors and textures, and maintenance is easy. It can even be applied on top of existing tiles!

4.Ledges instead of niches

When space permits, why not have a large ledge spanning across a wall instead of a small niche? Not only does it create a cool design feature but it also provides a lot more space for shampoo bottles and self care products. I predict that we’ll see more and more of these ledges in the bathrooms of 2024.

5. Mood lighting

While I’m always a strong proponent of layering different types of lighting in a space, I predict that we’ll see more and more interesting sconces and other dimmable decorative light fixtures used in bathrooms to offer spa-like mood lighting.
